Note about "Jr."

[edit]

Just want to make a note about this for the record. I moved this article from "Satterlee Clark Jr." to "Satterlee Clark". The "Jr." was first attributed to him, as far as I can tell, in the Annals of the Legislature (record of previous legislatures) in the 1877 Wisconsin Blue Book. He wasn't referred to as "Jr." in the legislative manuals during his term as Senator or Representative, and wasn't referred to as "Jr." in the newspapers of his time. His name on his memoir of Fort Winnebago and the Black Hawk War also does not include "Jr." He did, however, definitely have a son named Satterlee Clark, whose gravestone says "Satterlee Clark Jr." So, not knowing the name of this article subject's father, and not seeing much historical evidence that he ever identified as a "Jr." think that it should be left off this article name. --Asdasdasdff (talk) 05:11, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Updating this: I did find information on his father, who was also named Satterlee Clark, and found a couple sources during the lifetime of this article's subject that used a "Jr." with his name--But they were only right around the time of his father's death around 1847-48. I still think it's not appropriate to have the "Jr." in the article name, since it seems that was rarely applied to him, and article title guidance suggests preferring simple firstname+lastname unless the subject is better known by another name, or other disambiguation is required. --Asdasdasdff (talk) 07:10, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
